How to post and allocate payments

you can post and allocate payments from patients, insurance companies, or third parties directly from the payment posting page all payments must be allocated to charge items before they are fully applied where to post payments 1 go to billing → payments 2 click post payment you’ll be taken to the payment allocation screen posting a patient (self pay) payment use this option when a patient or family member is paying directly step 1 select who is paying under payment details , choose patient step 2 enter payment details select the payment date choose the payment method (check, card, ach, cash, etc ) enter required fields (for example, check number if using check) enter the total payment amount step 3 allocate to charge items on the right under charge items filter by date or client if needed enter the amount to apply to each unpaid charge as you allocate allocated increases remaining decreases once fully allocated, click post payment posting an insurance payment use this option when payment is received from an insurance payer step 1 select who is paying choose insurance step 2 enter payer information select the insurance payer enter payment date choose payment method enter required details (such as check number if applicable) enter the total payment amount step 3 allocate to charges under charge items locate the relevant client and dos enter the insurance paid amount per service line after allocation, click post payment posting an “other” (third party) payment use this option for grants charity payments third party organizations step 1 select who is paying choose other step 2 enter payment details payment date payment method total payment amount step 3 allocate to charge items allocate the payment to the appropriate service lines click post payment once allocation is complete important notes you must enter a payment amount before allocating required fields (like check number for check payments) must be completed payments are not finalized until they are allocated and posted if there are no available charge items, the payment will remain unapplied
